Once trained, you will see a new spell called
Survey in your professions under
Archaeology, this is the tool/spell you
will use to find artifacts. Now where to
use your new found survey tool! |
 |
Open your map and on each continent (if your
skill is high enough) you will see 4 small
shovels, if your not seeing them you will need
to tick the Show Dig Sites box at the bottom
of your map. These shovels show you where to go and
Survey, they are exclusive to you so there
is no need
to worry about them being surveyed from under
you, each time you dig up an artifact a new
location will spawn randomly on the continent
you are currently surveying. |

Digsites
Select one of the
4 locations on your map and open the zone map,
you will see an orange glow at the location where there will be
three survey areas, at each survey area there will be fragments buried somewhere in that area, use your
Survey tool to locate the exact position of
your first fragment. |
|
|
You will see the survey tool (looks like a
telescope) on the ground where you surveyed, it
shows you the general direction and the distance to the
fragment depending on the colour of the light
(top of the antenna) and the direction the
survey tool is facing. |
 |
 |
 |
100+ Yards |
50-100 Yards |
< 50 Yards |
|
|
Follow the
direction the survey tool is facing and continue to
survey, Once you are within 7 yards a
fragment will appear on the ground. this needs to be
looted to be entered into your Archaeology journal.
Depending on your level and location the fragment will be
part of an
artifact from one
of the following nine races. |
|
|
Initially you will receive two, three or
four fragments of an artifact at each
survey area,
as your level increase you will receive more fragments each time you survey
up to five fragments or if you are a dwarf the racial
bounus
Explorer gives up to seven fragments. To complete an
artifact you will need to collect
35-150 pieces depending on your level, the race and
rarity of the artifact.
|
 |
You will notice there is a 10
race symbol in your journal, as of yet there is no known
way of unlocking this, many have speculated that it's :
- A place holder for a future 10th
race
- Future Daily or Quest
System
- Something that unlocks when you have collected
all rare artifacts
- Opened when digging in unmarked secret areas
- Nothing at all
For now we will just have to wait till we have
some soild confirmation as to what the 10th
symbol is. |

Archaeology Gains
Each Artifact that you solve will earn you 5 skill
points in archaeology, you will also gain a single point
each time you dig up fragments untill you reach 50
Archaeology skill, then the only way to recieve gains is
by completing artifacts. Solving rare artifacts will
give you 15 skill points. |
Keystones
Sometimes
you will also pick up a keystone, these keystones are
worth 12 fragments and are race specific. If the artifact
you are currently solving has keystone
sockets and you have collected the
corresponding keystone, you can then add
the keystone by clicking the socket. The
keystones can be removed as well as they
will not be consumed until you solve the
Artifact. Most lower level
Artifacts do not have sockets, but as your level increases
newly discoverable artifacts may have one, two or three keystone sockets.
Currently there are no keystones
available for Fossils.
